Course objectives
The student will get a basic orientation of the basics of neurology to the extent essential for a special educator. They become familiar with the terminology and can orientate themselves in selected topics that are related to the education of children and pupils with special educational needs and are based on the orientation parameters in the diagnostic materials and in the available information about the causes and symptoms of the given disability.
Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- the student can describe the regularities of the development of the central nervous system in the prenatal period
- the student can define terms from neurology related to selected contexts with childhood
- the student knows the essence of selected neurological disabilities in childhood and their symptoms
- the student will describe epilepsy and its etiological factors and seizure intervention, or treatment and context in childhood
- the student defines the most common brain injuries in childhood
- the student knows the movement development of an individual
- the student can also explain the function of individual systems, event their differences
Professional skills:
- the student is able to orient himself in the terminology and use the acquired knowledge in the practice of a special pedagogue
- the student can use diagnostic conclusions from neurology to determine the systematic educational profile of the child/pupil
- the student can describe in his own words anatomical and physiological deviations from normal during special pedagogical diagnosis
General qualifications:
- the student is capable of interdisciplinary cooperation
- the student can design a program for the development of a child's personality with an emphasis on cognitive abilities and specific skills, which predicts success, despite a neurological disease, the child's diagnosis
- the student is able to apply appropriate methods of communication when cooperating with the legal representatives of pupils with special educational needs in the application of stimulating, corrective, re-educational and compensatory activities

  • 4. Development of the nervous system taking into account the child's age
  • 5. Neurological syndromes, their importance in childhood, diagnostic approaches to them
  • 6. Movement apparatus, development of momentum of individual periods
  • 7. Cerebral palsy
  • 8. Epilepsy
  • 9. Mild brain dysfunction, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, simple attention deficit disorder
  • 10. Injuries of the central nervous system
  • 11.-12. Case studies and examples of neurological diseases in practice, discussion

Assessment methods
Handing in a seminar paper on a selected topic with a minimum range of 4-6 pages is a condition for registering for credit. Successful completion of the credit test.

Teacher's information
Personal contact in lessons, consultation hours. During ongoing studies, the student uses study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here, at the same time, he will demonstrate his knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied subject topics via e-mail, individual or group consultations. The subject has an e-learning course prepared in IS SU and a team established in MS Teams, which also serves as another possible tool for communication with the teacher and between students.
