- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Economic Issues of Central European Area is to learn the students the ability to analyse, interpret and evaluate economic development of central European area. The development of students´ ability to discuss about current economic issues is also important part of the course.
- Syllabus
- 1. Principal concepts from economy and economic policy
2. Economic policy of EU, political-economic cycle, types and parts of economic policy, characteristic features of economic policy of individual countries
3. Supra-national companies and chain stores, international fluctuation of capital and its forms, investment incentive
4. Foreign trade of central European countries and EU, structure of foreign trade and trade balance
5. Branch structure of GNP and its development, comparison of economic growth and economic level of EU countries
6. Inflation, monetary policy of EU countries, exchange rates, euro and its implementation
7. Fiscal policy and public finances, taxes, national debt of EU countries
8. Economic activity of population, development of incomes, housing, poverty, social policy
9. Labour market, employment and unemployment, migration and immigration
10. Reforms of countries of central and eastern Europe (Czech republic, Slovak republic, Poland, Hungary, Visegrad)
11. Regulation and corruption, Amnesty International

- The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
- Teacher's information
- The students must develop key concepts from economics and economic policy and learn to view them in connections of current development. They must follow current economic analyses and outlines and orientate in principal tendencies of economic development. A five-page text on topic relating to analysed topic of student´s choice from given topics. The student presents his text composed with use of specialized literature and experience form practice in tutorial, answers the other students´ questions, defends his attitude and discuss with other students the subject of his presentation. The other students will evaluate the presentation as well and finally does lecturer.
