- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- Within the course, the students will be introduced the principal concepts of the theory of diplomacy, history of development of diplomatic relations, main functions and structure of diplomatic representation, forms and rules of diplomatic procedure and political, commercial and social meetings with respect to possible usage of gained knowledge in practice - in international and regional level in both official and private sphere. The special attention will be put on region of central Europe in the frame of European Union which is presupposed sphere of workplace of students in their future practice. Therefore, the topic of diplomatic theory and practice widened of primary workload of information of this area from the point of view of interests of Czech foreign policy, especially policy economic, security and cultural. The students will acquire also links to information resources in this field including information about possibilities of diplomatic and foreign service in Czech and European political and commercial structures.
- Syllabus
- 1. Diplomacy and its importance for international cooperation (principal concepts and division - political diplomacy, consular contacts, military, cultural and commercial diplomacy, diplomatic privileges and immunities, Vienna Convention
2. History of development of diplomatic contacts and principal data from history of world and Czech (Czechoslovak) diplomacy. International agreements, pacts and organizations, basic principles of international law
3. Sources of information about Czech foreign policy, diplomatic service, possibilities of study - diplomacy, diplomatic academy and IIR, foreign service in Czech and European structures, specialized literature and periodicals
4. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech republic and system of Czech diplomatic missions and representation in the world (embassy, consulates, honorary consulates, cultural and information mission, stable representation and missions, commercial representation, government agencies abroad)
5. Central Europe as a subject of interest of Czechoslovak and Czech diplomacy in building Czechoslovak or Czech statehood - Versailles system, Trianon, access discussions of the Czech republic with NATO and EU
6. Diplomatic representation and activities of the Czech republic in Visegrad countries
7. Diplomatic representation and activities of the Czech republic in Germany and Austria
8. The Czech republic in European Union - basic concepts and limitation, structures, rules and agreements
9. The Czech republic in international organizations (NATO, UN, security, commercial and economic organizations, Visegrad cultural fund)
10. Diplomatic practice I - forms and methods of proceedings and communication (bilateral proceedings, official and work proceedings, conferences, multilateral proceedings, records, notes)
11. Diplomatic practice II - forms and methods of proceedings and communication in cultural diplomacy, commercial and economic diplomacy
12. Diplomatic procedure and fundamentals of societal procedure and societal behaviour - rules, examples
