- Course objectives
- Integration of a new professional into a helping profession is a process which is systematically developing since pre-gradual professional training and educational process plays key role in it - for future nurses it is their studies and clinical practice. Emotional aspects of developing professionalism have not been dealt with adequately, systematic work with attitude, ethical dilemmas, personal feeling and experience has not been sufficiently implemented into study plans - "portfolio of useful skills" has not been purposely built. The course of Psychosocial support system for nurses aims to fill this section of "zero curriculum" and teach future nurses how to work with reflection and self-reflection, with critical thinking and creativity, how to integrate into the profession and start suitable lifestyle as a preventive measure against the burnout syndrome and as a supportive factor of lifelong consolidation in the profession of a nurse. Nursing works with the following systems of support: mentoring, preceptoring (in the CR conditions it is process of adaptation), supervision, couching, mediation and other. The course covers selected systems of support (mentoring, preceptoring and supervision - reflected practice) which are essential for a graduate to know as the graduate encounters them immediately after starting career, either they are the subject or object of support. The course is spread over whole studies, is based on experience learning and active participation. The output is not academic knowledge but mostly experience, awareness of possible ways to solving problems, personal mental hygiene and better understanding of clients' and their own emotions. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student defines the process of adaptation, is able to describe how this process proceeds and how they see their integration into the profession. Professional skills: The student is able to describe their feelings and is able to speak about their attitude in connection with experienced reality of nursing practice. With the assistance of analysis and reflection the student is able to analyse a nursing problem, their role in it and is able to search for feasible variants of solving the problem, both individually and in a team. The student experiences both personal success in a team and lack of success while solving professional and interpersonal problems in a work team, is able to integrate this experience into their portfolio of experience. The student is able to assess their professional strength realistically and use it effectively, and is able to speak about limits and risks which they reflect and contemplate. General ability: The student demonstrates basic readiness to provide support both to patients and their kin, as well as to younger and less-experienced colleagues at work in the role of a "mentor assistant" . The student contemplates their decision in regard to their consequences, especially in relation to target population which is labelled as frail (children, the elderly, the mentally ill, people dependent on personal/institutional care, the homeless, refugees and so on.) The student speaks about their satisfaction with their studies and looks forward to future profession of a nurse, contemplates actively their future career of a nurse. Competence: The student further improves and perfects their acquired skills of self-reflection, working with emotions and using psychosocial systems of support at clinical departments.
