- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to deepen the methodological knowledge of students of the previous methodological courses especially at the application level. Therefore, at the lectures, the emphasis is put on studying and practical training of specific research procedures. With regard to profilation of the field of study, it is taken into consideration also the application of the empirical research in history in a form of method of so called oral history, next in political science, where the method of content analysis of the documents (analysis of election programmes, newspaper reporting, political speeches, press releases, party stamp etc.) can be widely used.

- 1. How to choose a suitable research issue (from issue to topic and to research question)
2. Research project and design of research; role of hypotheses and problems in its formulation
3. Selective researches and issue of representativeness
4. Construction of "measuring instruments" in social sciences validity and reliability of measurement
5. Questionnaire: indicators and problem of operationalization, dramatics of questionnaire
6. Quantitative analysis of data I.
7. Quantitative analysis of data II.
8. Observation and visual sociology, use of photographs
9. Analysis of qualitative data
10. Oral history, interviews and their analysis
11. Content analysis of the documents
12. Interpretation of results and presentation of findings and data in the final text

- Credit requirements: To earn the credits, the students will: firstly, design a project of empirical research related to their potential or current diploma thesis, and secondly, will construct an appropriate instrument for data collection for this research.
According to the capabilities of contemporarily running researches at the FPP, the students will participate in data collection and preparation work with data in order to be able to learn practically this level of research work as well.
