The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Concept of the subject follows the theoretical knowledge which the students have acquired by completion of the course Introduction to Sociological Theory, deals with selected areas of social issues regarding the character of the study and uses the findings of applied sociological discipline. The aim of the course is to teach the students to use the acquired knowledge for orientation and understanding of current social phenomena. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students can explain and apply the knowledge of selected areas of applied sociology, related to the field of public administration and public services. Professional Skills: Students can navigate selected spheres of social life, understand the nature of social phenomena and processes. General Qualification: They understand the knowledge acquired during their lessons and can apply them in further studies and in every-day life. Competences: It is expected that students improve their knowledge constantly during their study.

  • 1. Specifics of the sociological approach in public administration and social work.
    2. Character of contemporary society (majority and minority groups).
    3. Sociology of organization.
    4. Bureaucracy - a critical topic in sociology.
    5. State, power, freedom, democracy, authority, and civil society.
    6. Issues of family and marriage.
    7. Life cycle and age groups.
    8. Process of training and education, free time.
    9. The issue of culture and religion.
    10. Lifestyle in the city and in the countryside.
    11. The issue of social inequalities and discrimination.
    12. The problem of poverty in the world.
    13. Globalization and consumerist society.

Credit requirements: a report on a chosen topic (presentation), defence of the paper on a selected topic of sociology
