- Course objectives
- The course aims to introduce students to the complex issues of strategy and policies of public health care system. It enables students to understand issues of health care and prevention of disease by means of organized effort. The subject then facilitates comprehension of the concept of primary health care according to WHO. It provides information about progressive development in this field in all Europe and about establishment of new services which ensure its availability for individuals, families and communities. It defines primary health care as "first line of contact" which draws basic care as close as possible to people's residence and workplace. The course explains the term "multi-disciplinary team" of (medical and non-medical) professions who provide this care. The students shall comprehend the significance of health care and prevention for the provision of primary health care and of the new concept of nursing care which is integral part of it. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student demonstrates knowledge of terms health, determinants of health, international and national activity for healthy population, the student is able to explain the differences between existing health care systems. The student has knowledge of functioning and organization of health and social services. Professional skills: The student is able to effectively work in medical facilities in the Czech Republic and in Europe and contribute to accomplishing the international goals (WHO and other) in the fields of health and well-being. General ability:Student is prepared to integrate into organized health care system in the Czech Republic and Europe. Competence: The student as part of multi-disciplinary team is capable to accomplish the goals in the fields of health and well-being set by WHO and other organizations. The student participates in organized prevention of diseases and in supporting health of individual and community.

- 1. Health - definition and its determinants, well-being, equality in health.
2. Basics of creating strategies and programs of health care system, its history and basic terms - health models, health care systems.
3. Program Health for everyone in 21st century and international activity. Social equity.
4. European strategy of health care, health in legal code of the EU.
5. Health care organization, advantages and disadvantages of individual systems.
6. System of health care in the Czech Republic, primary care abroad and in the CR. Health insurance.
7. Health education, its function, history, means and goals. Contemporary situation of health education in the EU and in the CR, the role of nurses in health education.
8. Prevention of diseases, its history, possibilities, goals and means.
9. Policy of public health protection in the EU and in the CR.
10. International cooperation and use of scientific knowledge in provision of health care and social services.
11. Concept of health care and social policies in the CR.
12. Active participation of citizens in the creation and implementation of health care and social policy.
13. Health care services functioning with respect to citizens' needs.
