- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to clarify theories of social policy in their aspects. The concept of instruction is based on description of characteristics of partial areas of socio-political measures of the society in the context of the development of the Czech Republic. Students develop basic knowledge of the theory of social policy, in particular the processes of social events - age, health, illness, dwelling or poverty, they obtain knowledge of the functioning of the various areas of social policy and their interconnectedness with other realms of public policy and administration. The mastery of the topics supposes a minimum volume of knowledge and skills that allow to professionally deal with dilemmas and situations that arise from the participation of the social worker and his clients in the system of social policy. After passing the course, students obtain a comprehensive view on the status and development of the theory of social policy. The aim is to create a theoretical and practical basis for further study of applied disciplines of the studied subject. An integral part of the subject are complementary seminars. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students acquire and demonstrate knowledge of the basic concepts, principles, functions and knowledge of social policy. Professional Skills: The student demonstrates the ability to find detailed information about social terminology, principles and knowledge in the relevant literature. They are able to integrate the acquired knowledge to the needs of the practice in the field. General Qualification: Students can apply key information, i.e. the concepts, principles and knowledge in interpreting their own position of a social worker and of their employer organizations in the social services system and in the society, in the interpretation of the situation of their clients and in the interpretation of the terms of meeting the needs of people and the conditions of implementation of citizen social rights. At the same time, the methods of the course will encourage the development of critical thinking, creativity and the students' ability to make decisions independently and responsibly.

SEMINAR
The seminar extends the content of the lectures on developmental psychology. Students will learn to analyse a topic, actively and independently search for information relevant to the selected topic, work with the literature, present the elaborated topic in front of their colleagues and defend their work in the subsequent seminar discussion. Topics are focused on specific issues, which are closely related with the development of individuals in various age periods. They may be illustrated through audio-visual aid.
1. Age as a social event.
Aspects of the culture of ageing, the passive and the active role of public administration in the profile of the culture of active ageing and implementation of the concept of social support, a society for all.
2. The pension social security scheme.
Demographic alarmism, ageing strategy, merit principles and social quality of the pension reform.
3. Poverty as a social event.
The economic profile of the social risks associated with poverty, indicators of poverty. Social protection and minimum income quantities. New poverty
4. Social exclusion and social integration as a social event.
Analyses and aspects of social exclusion in the Czech Republic, selected models of alternative practices in the care for the citizen. The legal, economic and social environment for the development of civil society.
5. Motherhood as a social event.
The construction of gender in the family and society, divorce rate, fertility, protection of motherhood and childhood.
6. Family policy.
Transformations of the family, singles, functions of family, dimensions, parenting, activities to support the family.
7. Educational policy.
The objectives, function, and limits to educational opportunities, formal, non-formal, informal learning, lifelong learning, basic mind concepts.
8. Health and illness as a social event.
Protection and health care, the medical need, health determinants of the health and the promotion health care system, disability.
9. Housing policy.
Needs, social support for social housing.
10. Internal company social policy
Employee care system, components of remuneration, the project of care, employee benefits, harmonization of working and family activities.
11. Gender - a social challenge.
Reflection on specific gender issues in socio-political societal activities, forms and methods of gender societal structure, the job market.
12. Social cohesion, exclusion and the creation of social policy of regions and municipalities.
General objectives of the state social policy and social policy objectives of local authorities, sustainability, capacity, efficiency of "localization".
13. Perspectives of social policy
Comparative examples of measures in selected countries, various views on the strategies of upgrading social policy.
