Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course is conceived in order to give basic orientation of students in the system of consultancy. The aim of the course is to transfer theoretical findings of current possibilities of consultancy regarding both organizational aspect and aspect of possible approaches to client. It presents the fundamental principles of theoretical approaches to students in individual case work (e.g. psychoanalysis, systemic approach), as well as in family therapy and work with a group, in particular in connection with various minority groups and their members. It approximates the fundamental aspects of work with clients in helping profession through the first contact with the client, anamnesis, diagnostics, intervention till termination of consultancy work, the attention is paid to issue of crisis intervention as well. It presents also various institutions which offer consultancy. The lecture topics are followed by experience exercises in tutorials in which the principal skills necessary for social work are developed. In the tutorials, the practical skills necessary in contact with client, especially dialogue leading, ability of reflection of non-verbal communication of one´s own and client´s will be developed. We will use knowledge from lectures regarding suitable usage of questions. The feedback of successful training of students is secured by usage of video camera as well. In the tutorials, the students will be assigned partial control tasks - e.g. composition of family map, preparation of dialogue with client etc. Gained knowledge is interlinked with other subjects in Psychology and consultancy block and will be exploited complexly especially in Social work block (mainly in course Theory and Methods of Social Work and specialised practice).

  • 1. Introduction to subject. Characteristics of consultancy.
    2. Forms, areas and aims of consultancy work
    3. Types and characteristics of consultancy institutions. Special consultancy
    4. Phases of consultancy-therapeutic process. Formulation of target. External conditions. Work with time.
    5. Personality of consultant, ethic rules. Burnout syndrome
    6. Clients measures, social norms and specialization of consultant. Recognition of help and control. Means of leading social work
    7. Means of consultancy work - individual, family and group therapy
    8. Anamnesis dialogue. Leading dialogue with client. Useful questions. Measuring and constructive questions. Evaluation of client. Work with risky clients.
    9. Family therapy. Circular questioning. Different approaches to work with family.
    10. Group therapy. Characteristics of therapeutic group. Group dynamics
    11. Consultancy approaches - development of thinking from linear concept to system concept. Freud. Jung, Adler
    12. Psycho-social theory, humanistic theory, behaviourism, gestalt therapy, logo-therapy, systemic approach, integrative approach

Connection of theoretical knowledge and expression of own opinion in interactively lead tutorials. Oral test aimed at testing theoretical (consultancy institutions, requirements on consultant, help and control) and practical skills (dialogue leading, composition of family map, work with risky clients).
