Course objectives
The course provides comprehensive information on nutrition and its importance for the development of teeth and dentition health. It familiarizes students with the risks of malnutrition and over-nutrition, as well as with differences in food serving and food intake. Students acquire knowledge and skills important for clinical practice.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students know the basic concepts and relations in the field of human nutrition and demonstrate this knowledge.
Professional skills: Students are able to apply the knowledge to specific cases of patients and clients. They can provide basic nutrition recommendations.
General Qualification: Students are well versed in both natural and therapeutic nutrition and the system of dietary measures. In collaboration with other health care professionals, they can assist in ensuring adequate nutritional status of a wide range of patients and of the general population.
Competences: Having completed the course, the students can provide care of adequate nutritional status of patients / clients in collaboration with a physician and provide the necessary education.

  • 1. Nutrition and human health, determination of nutritional status, nutritional protocol.
  • 2. Food composition and its energy value, Ph value of food. Minerals and vitamins in the diet.
  • 3. Energy balance management.
  • 4. Physical activity and nutrition.
  • 5. Diets and dietary system.
  • 6. Adiposis. Malnutrition.
  • 7. Nutrition in childhood.
  • 8. The importance of nutrition for proper development of teeth and prevention of tooth decay.
  • 9. Effect of chronic alcohol and drug use on nutritional status.
  • 10. Disorders of chewing, swallowing, digestion, absorption.
  • 11. Chronic diseases affecting food intake.
  • 12. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
  • 13. The risk of nutritional disorders in hospitalized patients, nutrition in oncological patients.
