Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand the basic characteristics in the successive stages of human development. Lecture blocks will be supplemented by excursions to facilities or organizations that take care of individual groups (nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, children's homes, secondary schools, counseling for alternative family care), a day center for seniors. The aim of the course is to ensure that the student is familiar with the normal course of development of the individual in the various periods of human ontogenesis and is able to apply it in their primarily studied field.
Syllabus
  • 1. Definition of the basic stages of human development, explanation of the concept of development, and determination of the development of human personality.
    2. Prenatal and neonatal period and its importance for future development.
    3. The period of the infant as a period of important bond between the child and his surroundings.
    4. Age of the child as a stage of psychological self-respect.
    5. Preschool age: period of initiative, activity, mental development. School readiness. Problems associated with early training.
    6. School age: period of hard work, possibilities of leisure activities.
    7. The period of adolescence and its difficulties.
    8. Important milestones of adulthood and completion of the developmental tasks of the period. Parenting as an important role in human life.
    9. Old age as a stage to achieve wisdom of life.
    10. Discussion about the possibilities of supporting the development of the individual in the Czech Republic and abroad.

    • child and parents' divorce
    • substitute family care in the Czech Republic
    • Children’s homes as institutions and opportunities to support children without parents
    • psychological effects of involuntary childlessness
