Course objectives
The course is focused on obtaining theoretical and practical information about the possibility of working with multisensory concepts, and specifically with the Snoezelen method. The whole course consists of theoretically tuned exercises, which focus on the basic principles, determinants, possibilities and characteristics of the multisensory concept Snoezelen in the Czech and international conditions. Students simultaneously practice in the demonstration room Snoezelen, where they obtain information about the use, aids, techniques and principles of work towards the target group of people.
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, the student will gain:
Expert knowledge:
- Can define multisensory concepts in general
- Knows the history and context of the use of multisensory work in special education and other related disciplines
- Orients in the epistemological foundations of the doctrine of the concept of Snoezelen
- Knows the possibilities of using multisensory environments
- Can describe the basic planes of the Snoezelen triangle
Professional skills:
- Can assess and analyze the use of a room for a specific person, or group of people
- Applies knowledge of didactic principles, principles and conditions of using a multisensory room in a specifically created own methodology
General competences:
- Can adapt the technology, aids and environment of a multisensory room to his goal
- Can assess the use of the multisensory room environment according to individual and special needs of man in a specific way
Syllabus
  • Exercise topics:
  • Definition of multisensory concepts and their usability within the target group
  • Characteristics of multisensory concept in general, variability of multisensory concepts, goal and intention.
  • The concept of Snoezelen and its epistemological basis.
  • Definition of the Snoezelen triangle, including a detailed description of the three planes.
  • The environment of the multisensory room, including technology, aids and all equipment.
  • Principles, rules, and didactic principles of work in Snoezelen.
  • Examples of methodical use of Snoezelen and practical exercises in a multisensory room.
