Course objectives
The main objective of the subject is to familiarize the students with applications of pathology in practice and its importance for biopsy diagnostics, as well as evaluation of disease development/efficacy of treatment/prognosis. The students will also learn how clinical diagnosis and treatment can be verified and assessed on necropsy in relation to the quality of diagnostic methods. Pathology constitutes a theoretical foundation for a number of clinical subjects. In its general part, the subject described basic pathological processes on a cellular and tissue level, particular general terms are consequently applied in explanation of special pathology - a discipline that describes tissue damage and disease processes in various organs or systems. Instruction also draws on certain key concepts from clinical practice. On completion of the course, the student will be familiar with both general pathology (extinction of organism, causes of disease, regressive and metabolic changes, types/importance and stages of inflammation, progressive changes, foundation of oncological diseases) and special pathology (with an emphasis on basic functions of respective organ systems and pertinent disorders and conditions).
