Course objectives
The aim of the counseling course is to help students navigate social relationships that involve certain forms of prevention, mitigation of impacts, and assistance in difficult social situations faced by people who, due to a particular social event (such as returning from prison, disability, etc.), require help. It is an interdisciplinary course that draws primarily from the latest findings in psychology, counseling, and the application of legal norms. Another goal of the course is to acquire basic methods of work in the main areas of counseling and to collectively formulate the assumptions for this activity.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to: - Identify and summarize the key phases of the counseling process; - Describe the personal and professional skills necessary for the role of a counselor; - Apply various methods and forms of counseling work; - Explain legal norms related to social security and social services; - Recognize and respond to the needs of individuals in difficult social situations; - Formulate plans and strategies for effective client assistance; - Integrate knowledge from psychology, law, and sociology into counseling practice; - Analyze client needs and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling interventions.

  • 1. Issues in counseling, the counseling process, and its phases. 2. The personality of the counselor, methods, and forms of counseling work. Types and characteristics of counseling institutions. 3. Social security law. 4. Pension insurance. 5. Sickness insurance. 6. Minimum living and subsistence levels. 7. State social support. 8. Social assistance. 9. Social care assistant. 10. Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on Social Services, as amended, social and legislative foundations. 11. Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on Social Services, as amended, content. 12. Act No. 329/2011 Coll., on the Provision of Benefits to Persons with Disabilities and on the Amendment of Related Acts, as amended. Selected aspects of the 2012 Social Reform in the Czech Republic.
