- Course objectives
- Objectives: During the course, students will be provided with the necessary knowledge of general psychiatry. Students will be introduced to the basic classification of mental disorders and the terminology used in psychiatry. Attention will be paid to basic diagnostic and treatment procedures and the most frequently occurring psychiatric symptoms, syndromes and conditions. Students will be introduced to the issues of ethics and law in relation to individuals with mental illness.

- Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: - the student is familiar with the basic terminology used in psychiatry - the student has basic knowledge of the classification of mental disorders, basic symptoms and syndromes, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders - the student is familiar with the issues of acute conditions in psychiatry, mental disorders associated with the postpartum period and the issues of psychosomatic conditions - the student has basic knowledge of ethical and legal issues in relation to individuals with mental illness Professional skills: - the student recognizes and describes the symptoms of a mental disorder, which he can distinguish from the norm - the student is able to propose appropriate solutions in connection with the client's health condition - the student is able to provide specific advice and support to the patient - the student is able to advise where to seek professional help General competencies: - the student can independently choose an appropriate, productive approach when contacting an individual with a mental illness, which he is able to apply in everyday practice - the student can choose the effectiveness of the assistance strategy

- Contents: 1. Introduction to psychiatry. Organization of psychiatric care 2. Classification of mental disorders 3. Basic concepts in psychiatry 4. Main syndromes in psychiatry 5. Diagnosis. Interview with a psychiatric patient 6. Treatment procedures in psychiatry 7. Resocialization and rehabilitation in psychiatry 8. Acute conditions in psychiatry 9. Mental disorders and behavioral disorders associated with the postpartum period 10. Psychosomatic medicine. Psychiatric issues in people with somatic diseases 11. Legal issues in psychiatry 12. Ethics and stigmatization in psychiatry

Another requirement for completing the course is mandatory IN-PERSON participation in at least two educational activities (overall for the entire semester) as recommended by the guarantor of the study programme or the lecturer (e.g., lectures, seminars, or webinars given by external experts).
Requirements for students on work placement: It is necessary to study the specified topics (see syllabus) and pass the written test. You may use the lectures available in the Information System under the titles General Psychiatry I and General Psychiatry II, or consult the literature listed below.
