Course objectives

The course builds on the content of Holistic Music Therapy 1 and focuses on consolidating acquired skills and deepening theoretical knowledge. It is designed as an experiential and educational workshop, in which theoretical knowledge is systematically integrated with practical and self-experiential components.


The theoretical part focuses on the role of music therapy in pedagogy, special pedagogy, psychotherapy, and comprehensive rehabilitation. It clarifies the relationship between music therapy and psychotherapy and presents current music therapy approaches applied in the Czech context. It further outlines the possibilities of applying music therapy in educational settings, both with children, pupils, and students with special educational needs, and with typically developing individuals.


The practical part emphasizes personal experience of vibrations, preparation, and implementation of music therapy activities for a specific target group. Students prepare a written plan of an educational block using musical instruments and subsequently implement it, with emphasis on reflection on personal experience and application of theoretical knowledge in practice.

Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- the student orients himself in current music therapy trends
- the student is able to specify the features of music therapy approaches
- the student is aware of the possibilities of using music therapy activities in the education and training of children, pupils and students
- the student is able to describe the personal prerequisites for the work of a music therapist
- the student is able to specify which areas of an individual's personality are affected by playing untempered instruments and listening to them
- the student knows the structure of the music therapy block
Professional skills:
- the student can play percussive instruments, bowls, slot drums, djembe basics
- the student is able to create rhythms, connect them to each other with percussion instruments
- the student is able to prepare a room, suitable tools for a specific group
- the student is able to actively and purposefully use the tools, principles and elements of an active and receptive form of music therapy
General qualifications:
- the student can assess the use of musical instruments and forms of music therapy according to the individual needs of the individual in a specific situation
- the student is able to process the structure of the methodology of the music therapy block according to the plan and then implement it
- the student is able to prepare and lead a drum circle and a music therapy orchestra
- the student is capable of improvisation as part of playing together

Teaching methods
Lecture, guided professional discussion, brainstorming, group work, experiential and self-experiential learning, practical demonstration and practice of music therapy techniques, reflective and self-reflective activities, independent student work, individual preparation. 
Assessment methods
Course credit is awarded based on the continuous completion of assigned correspondence tasks, submitted via the Submission tool in the IS according to the instructor’s instructions. The assessment includes a final reflective report, in which the student analyzes personal experience, self-experience, and the application of theoretical knowledge in practice. Evaluation criteria include task completion, academic quality of work, integration of theory and practice, and quality of reflection.

The course is conducted through face-to-face instruction, complemented by consultation hours.
During the course, students make use of study support materials and complete selected correspondence assignments, in which they demonstrate their knowledge of the required literature and the content of contact teaching.
To support independent study, students have access in the IS to a list of recommended literature, study support materials, interactive syllabus, practice articles, and lecture presentations.
For ongoing consultations during the semester, students may use email, as well as individual or group meetings with the instructor.
