Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with care of women's' health according to their age, medical conditions of their reproductive organs and gynaecological diseases. The course presents differences in care of women in the fields of primary, secondary and tertiary health care. The course describes care of women with an emphasis on individual needs of girls and women in various stages of life - childhood, adolescence, reproduction period, and climacterium. It also points at significance of reproductive and sexual health, prevention of diseases of women's reproductive organs. Having finished the course, the students will orientate themselves in the issues of nursing care of women in health and illness.
Syllabus
  • Course contents:
    Lectures:
    1. Preventive care of women within the system of primary care (gynaecological anamnesis, gynaecological examination (cytology, colonoscopy), gynaecological examining methods, preventive schemes in the Czech Republic.
    2. Contraceptives and education in family planning, interruption, spontaneous abortion. Minor and major operations in gynaecology (vaginal, abdominal).
    3. Preventive care of women (obstetric anamnesis). Body changes during gravidity, diagnostics during gravidity, physiological and high-risk pregnancy, antenatal care organization.
    4. Spontaneous and pathologic delivery. Obstetric operations, emergencies in obstetrics and gynaecology.
    5. Care of women in puerperium. Physiological and pathologic puerperium.
    6. Examining methods in obstetrics. Ectopic pregnancy, sterility, fertility, infertility, assisted reproductive technology.
    7. Gynaecological inflammations, urinary incontinence, abnormal positions of internal reproductive organs, descensus, venereal diseases.
    8. Issues of children gynaecology and adolescent gynaecology. Sexual and reproductive health. Preventive schemes and WHO recommendations.
    9. Benign oncological diseases. Prevention and medical care. The most frequent malign oncological diseases (vulva, cervix, endometrium, oviducts, and ovaries).
    Seminars and practical sessions:
    1. Organization of nursing care in gynaecology and obstetrics. Records - systematic assessment of a client/patient in gynaecology and obstetrics. Standard nursing care plans. A systemic approach using conception models and theories.
    2. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient during prenatal care, adaptation of women to pregnancy, pregnant women's needs.
    3. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient during high-risk pregnancy, women's needs.
    4. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient during physiological and during pathological delivery.
    5. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient and a nursing process in postpartum period. Significance of education in puerperium, breast feeding, women's/mother's needs.
    6. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient in gynaecology, pathological conditions, women's/girls' needs.
    7. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient in gynaecology during peri-operative care - minor surgical interventions in gynaecology and obstetrics.
    8. A systemic nursing assessment of a client/patient in gynaecology during peri-operative care - major surgical interventions in gynaecology and obstetrics.
    9. Sexual and reproductive health, preventive schemes. Educative activities of a nurse, education plans in care of women, women's stages of life. WHO recommendations.

Attendance in seminars in a minimum of 90 %, creation of a credit essay - nursing assessment of a client and planning of care, knowledge test, and oral examination are required for credit allocation.
