- Course objectives
- The subject is intended for principal familiarization of the students with environmental protection in Central Europe and related policy in selected countries. The aim of the subject is to present the basic terms, processes and principles of environmental protection in the Central European countries to the students. The student acquires basic knowledge concerning evaluation of selected environmental issues, and information on application of concept of sustainable development in environmental protection.
- Syllabus
- 1. Basic ecological terms. Ecology and environmental protection.
2. Economic growth in developed and developing countries. Effect of human population growth on the environment. Demographic forecasts in Central Europe.
3. Global environmental problems of the environment and their manifestations in Central Europe. Climate changes. Water scarcity. Stratospheric ozone layer depletion.
4. Acidification and eutrophication of ecosystems. Loss of biodiversity. Deforestation.
5. Land degradation. Water pollution. Waste production. Air pollution.
6. Sustainable development and society.
7. Indicators of sustainable development. Ecological dimension of sustainable development and indicators (ecological footprint).
8. Environmental policy of the Czech republic and EU - policy, legislative and institutional frame. Environmental protection management system in the Czech republic.
9. Significant international conventions on the environmental protection.
10. Sustainable development of landscape and countryside.
11. Civil sector as a tool of sustainable development in EU and the Czech republic.
