Course objectives
The subject is divided into two blocks. The first one, figuratively speaking, is dedicated to sociology "of" public administration, the second one to sociology "in" public administration. The first one makes the students familiar with general terms and sociological knowledge concerning political sociology which create the background of reflexion of public policy and public administration in sociological theory. It introduces the most important findings of sociology of bureaucracy, theory of the public and public meaning in modern democracies. The second block is focused on applicative dimension of sociology in practical application of public policies and public administration.

    1. Sociology of (public) policy and sociology in (public) policy
    2. State - social state - nation - society
    3. Nature of power in modern democracy
    4. Bureaucratic form of administration
    5. Civil society and problem of elites in democracy
    6. The public and public meaning
    7. Social exclusion and inclusion and issue of social inequalities
    Block II
    8. Evaluation of public policies by means of tools of social sciences
    9. Public opinion surveys.
    10. Researches concerning social services (survey of inhabitants' needs and social services supply)
    11. Analysis of socio-economic development of the regions
    12. Socially pathological phenomena as a matter of concern of the sociologists as well as public policies
