- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide characteristics of the origins, development and formation of the economic and social profiles of regions, based on traditional sectors, not only on the territory of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, Czechoslovakia, the present Czech Republic, but also in the wider context of Europe; furthermore, to comprise the complex issue of the heritage our society was faced with after 1989, which it was forced to set out from and with which it is now forced to work very carefully and competently. The course will focus on the complexity of the social and economic situation after the year 1945, the social impacts of centrally controlled economy, its extensive character, the five-year planning, normalization, stagnation, artificial creation of jobs, etc.) The course will build on the theoretical foundations of the study of regions and at the same time create preconditions for further understanding of the changes that are taking place in our society at the present. The course also provides preconditions for further study of the social dimension of integration and of the efforts of our economy after the entry into the European economic area (the courses Integration Processes in Europe, and Economic and Social Aspects of the European Union). The study of these issues is therefore conducted in the context of the EU. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students gain and demonstrate knowledge of field issues, an informed evaluation of the significance of the functioning of an integrated system for the efficiency of economy and related policies and of the society, they will find answers to the issues of the necessity of transformation of economies and policies (of the Czech economy) and of the pan-European integration efforts. Professional Skills: Students are well informed in the issues of the origins and formation of economic entities, relations and bonds and they can apply their acquired knowledge. They are familiar with the relevant field literature, can locate, interpret and apply the gained information in practice. They are able to integrate the acquired knowledge to the needs of the practice in the field. General Qualification: After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to resolve issues related to the development of the economic and social area using measures of public administration institutions. Students are able to perceive the relationship of task solution in various stages of development of the society. After the completion of the course, students will be capable of using their knowledge and skills for a specific job, in addition to other capacities. At the same time, the methods of the course will encourage the development of critical thinking, creativity and the students' ability to make decisions independently and responsibly.

2. Regional economics, localization theories, localization factors
3. Factors and phenomena effecting formation of regional system, European regions in the 60´s -the 70´s of the 19th century, colonization of America
4. Economic characteristics of Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, prerequisites of formation of their regions
5. Economic development till World War First, process of formation of regional system (on example of some European countries and United States)
6. Situation in regions during World War First - selected European regions, Austria-Hungary, Czech lands, decline of economic map (Europe, world)
7. Economic development of Czechoslovakia 1918-1929, Great Depression and its impact on state and development of regions in Czechoslovakia
8. Czechoslovakia after crisis 1934-1938, economic development in Czech lands and state of regions before and also in years 1938-1945, consequences of germanization
9. Economic (political, social) transformations in Czechoslovakia after World War Second, foreign assistance (1945-1948)
10. Post-war renewal, construction and transformation of Czechoslovakia 1948 (1947) -1960, rise of central system of management and planning
11. Czechoslovakia after 1960, development of industrial regions the 70´s -the 90´s of the 20th century
12. The Czech republic in the context of economic transformation of central and eastern Europe, integration efforts
13. Examples of practices - the transformation EU economies, Europe region, free movement of labor.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 9 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- The instruction is conducted based on lectures and consultations on predetermined topics, the students consult selected areas of issues, part of the preparation is also a term paper on a given topic and its presentation, which is a prerequisite to taking the exam.
The instructor will notify the students on the topics that have not been fully lectured for them to seek in the compulsory literature or at the e-learning site.
