The beginning of the laboratory process, that is taking of biological material and pre-analytic influence on the results of laboratory analysis are discussed separately. The course describes shortly basic parameters of laboratory assessment as well as basics of clinical practice with the aim of correct understanding of basic metabolic connection between these two disciplines and of correct interpretation of laboratory results. After finishing the course, the student will be well informed in the facilities of laboratory analysis of particular compartments of human organism, however, these do not comprise all content of clinical biochemistry, they are merely selected chapters dealing with most important and most common analyses of clinical laboratory practice. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is introduced to basic ongoing biochemical processes in the human organism and is able to demonstrate this knowledge. Professional skills: The student is able to apply a selected method of taking biological material, is able to perform basic analysis of taken material to certain extent.
