Course objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with physiotherapy and to enhance co-operation and understanding between the nurse and the physiotherapist. The course describes a number of rehabilitation procedures and enhances theoretical and practical skills in physical therapy as an indispensable part of health promotion and complication prevention measures. On completion of the course the student will orientate themselves in physiology and pathophysiology of the musculoskeletal system, movement control, acute and chronic pain, fitness exercises, breathing exercises, positioning, gait training, relaxation techniques, physical therapy etc. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to explain the physiology and pathophysiology of the musculoskeletal system, movement control, pathophysiology of pain, the importance of active and passive motion, indications for and forms of breathing exercises, key terms in respiratory physiotherapy, basic relaxation techniques and key concepts of physical therapy. Professional skills: The student is able to compose an exercise unit relative to the patient´s age and diagnosis, to correctly implement particular types of breathing exercises, to guide movement in passive exercises, to handle the patient on bed and during transfer to a chair/wheelchair, to position the patient relative to their status/diagnosis, to activate the patient out of their bed and assist in gait training using appropriate equipment, to assist in relaxation training for particular muscles or an overall relaxation, to perform a simple scar massage, muscle massage and joint massage. General ability: The student is able to professionally co-operate with a physical therapist in basic rehabilitation procedures, to independently chose appropriate positioning techniques for a given patient, to assist the patient out of bed based on their diagnosis and medical recommendations, and to rehabilitate the patient in terms of walking and basic activities of daily living. Competence: Within their professional scope in rehabilitation nursing, the course graduate is able to choose appropriate methodology, procedures/sequences of procedures, dosage of procedures and individual approaches throughout the therapeutic process in accordance with orders by medical doctors and physical therapists.

  • 1. Muscular system, micro and macro changes.
    2. Musculoskeletal system - physiology and pathophysiology.
    3. Motor control.
    4. Pain.
    5. Physical therapy.
    6. Exercises and fitness, implementation of physical exercise in various age groups.
    7. Breathing exercises. Practical training in various positions, complementary breathing exercises.
    8. Passive movements, change of position and positioning.
    9. Indoor movement of the patient, gait, walking support.
    10. Relaxation.
    11. Practical training of physical therapy interventions in a rehabilitation facility.
    12. Therapeutic massage.
    13. Basal stimulation.
