Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course assists students in learning health-specific vocabulary in German, mastering correct pronounciation and understanding German medical discourse. During the course, students should: make progress in their knowledge of German, expand their medical/nursing terminology, enhance their pronounciation, learn to understand German discourse in the health area, develop logical thinking abilities, as well as precision of expression and verbal discernment.

  • Practical Sessions:
    Specialization topics:
    1. Health and disease. Causes of disease, signs and symptoms, etiopathogenesis, pathogens, vaccination
    2. Infectious diseases and diseases in childhood
    3. AIDS
    4. Appearance and personal hygiene
    5. Personality traits
    Grammar:
    1. Prepositions in dative, accusative and genitive case
    2. Verb phrases, noun phrases, adjectival phrases, pronominal adverbs
    3. The ´werden´ verb. Passive voice
    4. Comparison of adjectives and adverbs. Adverbs ending in -(e)stens
    Written and oral discourse:
    1. Curriculum vitae
    2. Reading comprehension, translation
