Course objectives
The subject aims at getting the student familiar with hands-on clinical experience. The students take turns in clinical placements in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings based on the clinical schedule in accord with the curricula. Clinical practice is taking place under the supervision of mentors in co-operation with guarantors of clinical instruction. (Each preceptor teaches and supervises those areas of clinical activity that they are experienced in.) Clinical placements and workplaces for clinical lessons are selected based on given standards. The subject makes the students familiar with particular clinical departments and units. The student will practise in standard units, intensive care units and specialized nursing units. The student will learn to classify differences in providing nursing care to various types of patients, persons with handicaps and dying persons. On completion of the course, the student will be able to work in various clinical settings applying the nursing process under the supervision of a mentor/preceptor.
Syllabus
  • Areas of nursing practice:
    1st year: Clinical practice focuses on health promotion, prevention of disease and primary care. Students will get acquainted with the structure of primary care services and with particular types of health care facilities in primary care. They will learn to assess the material and social environment of respective clients and potential health risks. They will get acquainted with the diseases prevalent in a given setting and with the need for preventive measures and methods of individual and group health education. The student will acquire basic nursing skills.

    Out-patient office of a general practitioner for adult or paediatric/adolescent patients
    Specialized out-patient offices
    Social care facilities, elderly homes
