Course objectives
The subject presents basic knowledge in the discipline of genetics. It describes the structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins. It also discusses aberrations in genetic code transcription and their causes. Further, the transfer of genetic information in diploid organisms (including humans) is explained along with the principles of combination of parental properties in producing offspring. Human genetics is discussed, including ethical and social aspects and eugenics. Basic examination methods are described. Common genetically determined disorders and their signs/symptoms are explained.
