Course objectives
The subject aims to connect students' theoretical knowledge acquired in other subjects with their practical use within the framework of an individual approach to children and pupils with special educational needs. Furthermore, to introduce students to the practical life of children and pupils with special educational needs. The goal is a deeper understanding of the needs of these children and pupils, as well as knowledge of the interconnectedness of the family, school and healthcare systems. Students will discuss the presented case studies, then learn to write a case study record themselves.
Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- the student knows the individual parts of the case report, can obtain the information needed to compile the case report, including taking anamnesis, conducting an interview and analyzing the available documentation
- the student understands the importance of an individual approach to the individual, takes into account the current state of the individual, his needs, personality and other living conditions, understands the educational system
- the student knows the individual areas of a child's life, while applying a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual approach when analyzing an individual case
Professional skills:
- the student can work with the client's history, can conduct an interview and write a case report based on the information obtained, sensitively works with the obtained personal data
- the student is able to use professional resources and his knowledge to set up a plan for further development and to apply this knowledge in practice in order to recommend specific techniques and methods of working with the child/student
- the student performs a basic differential diagnosis of a child with special educational needs, recommends suitable re-education and development methods
General qualifications:
- the student can navigate client case studies and obtain the necessary information from them, is able to supplement the case study with other available information (questionnaires, documentation, etc.)
- the student can adequately connect his theoretical knowledge and use it in the context of an individual case
- the student is able to cooperate with other experts caring for the child/student, with family members
Syllabus
  • 1. Formal and content requirements of case studies, work with anamnesis
  • 2. Observation, conducting an interview, processing information from document analyses, questionnaires, etc.
  • 3. Case report of a child with delayed speech development, dyslalia gravis
  • 4. Case report of a child with developmental dysphasia in a regular kindergarten and in a kindergarten speech therapy class
  • 5. Case report of a student with developmental dysphasia in a regular elementary school and in a speech therapy class of an elementary school
  • 6. Case report of a student with a speech disorder in secondary school
  • 7. Case report of a child with ADHD/ADD
  • 8. Case report of a pupil with an intellectual disability
  • 9. Bullying
  • 10. Case report of a pupil with a cochlear implant in a normal primary school and in a deaf-paedic primary school class
  • 11. Case report of a child with hearing impairment in a regular kindergarten and in a deaf-paedic kindergarten class
  • 12. Case report of a pupil with elective mutism
Assessment methods
Presentation and defense of a seminar paper, the topic of which can be a case study of a child/pupil with special educational needs, or a case study of a film character of a person with special educational needs.

Teacher's information
In course of continuous study, students use the study material, processing it to fulfil selected correspondence assignments which will be discussed in conclusion of the course. At the exam, students demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and lectures of the in-person instruction. Students will be able to continuously consult the topics studied individually or in teams, via e-mail, or in consultations upon request.
