- Course objectives
- Objectives: The subject defines the content of teaching in the areas of: the relationship of deafness to other sciences, the interconnection of deafness and speech therapy, interdisciplinary cooperation. The subject characterizes the professional terminology in deafness; the physiology of the auditory analyzer, auditory perception, including the etiology, classification and characteristics of individual hearing impairments. It provides a historical outline of the development of education and training of students with hearing impairments in our country and abroad, including a cultural perspective on the issue of the deaf as a cultural minority and a linguistic minority. The aim is also to obtain a basic overview of the organization of care for individuals with hearing impairments, early care, care in preschool and school age for individuals with hearing impairments; the current system of institutional care for individuals with hearing impairments in the Czech Republic; the inclusion of students with hearing impairments and current trends in the education and training of students with hearing impairments. The content of the course enables the acquisition of basic knowledge of special pedagogical diagnostics in surdopedia, including the psychological peculiarities of persons with hearing impairments. It outlines the theory and practice of upbringing and education of pupils with hearing impairments in the areas of: methodology of language and communication education from the point of view of age and degree of hearing impairment; didactic principles of education of pupils with hearing impairments; communication systems of persons with hearing impairments and the basics of specific communication skills necessary for communication with persons with hearing impairments; therapy, intervention, compensatory, technical and teaching aids for individuals with hearing impairments; overview of the counselling system in the Czech Republic and current legislation from the point of view of supporting education of pupils with hearing impairments.
- Learning outcomes
- Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: - the student will gain insight into the issues of surdopedia, the importance of hearing and auditory perception for humans from the perspective of etiology, physiology and pathology of the auditory analyzer - the student will gain an overview of the theoretical foundations of historical and current care for people with hearing impairments - the student will be familiar with hearing examination methods in the healthcare and education sectors - the student will gain knowledge of visual-motor communication systems and their use in surdopedia intervention - the student will gain an overview and application of basic diagnostic examination methods, specifics of speech therapy intervention for individuals with hearing impairments - the student will gain an overview and overview of the advisory system and service providers for individuals with hearing impairments, possibilities of professional orientation for individuals with hearing impairments - the student will gain an overview and knowledge of the specifics of compensatory aids for individuals with hearing impairments Professional skills: - the student will orients and obtains an overview of the types and degrees of hearing impairment, methods of hearing examination, an overview of the criteria for assessing speech development based on specific manifestations of non-verbal and verbal communication of individuals with hearing impairments - the student applies basic knowledge, principles and differences in primary communication with individuals with hearing impairments, uses basic rules, methods and approaches in communication, education and re-education of individuals with hearing impairments - the student uses the acquired knowledge to determine basic intervention procedures for the comprehensive development of individuals with hearing impairments, the application of selected alternative communication systems for individuals with hearing impairments General competencies: - the student applies knowledge, specific peculiarities in the development of individuals with hearing impairments for their further personal development, communication development - the student applies modification of diagnostic and intervention procedures and approaches to individuals with hearing impairments - the student acquires basic competencies in interaction and intervention in the process of educating children and pupils with hearing impairments - the student prepares professional special pedagogical, preventive and activation activities for individuals with hearing impairments - the student demonstrates knowledge of interpersonal communication and cooperation within an interdepartmental framework
- Syllabus
- Contents: 1. Definition of basic terms and concepts of the field of surdopedia; historical approach to the education of individuals with hearing impairments 2. Introduction to the physiology of hearing. Anatomy of the auditory organ; methods of hearing examination, hearing tests, selected terminology from audiometry, screening in the healthcare sector and orientation hearing examination in education 3. Pathology of the auditory analyzer - classification, etiology and symptomatology of hearing defects; specifics of individual stages of speech development in individuals with hearing impairments 4. Development of care for individuals with hearing impairments in history and development of the school system for children and pupils with hearing impairments. Development of schools and institutions in the context of development and requirements of society 5. System of institutional care for individuals with hearing impairments. Early care centers, special educational centers. Organizations and schools for students with hearing impairments 6. Inclusive tendencies and socialization of individuals with hearing impairments in our country and abroad; integration of individuals with hearing impairments into the majority society. Employment of individuals with hearing impairments 7. Communication and communication styles – audio-oral communication systems and visual-motor communication systems; basics of communication behavior; basics of specific communication skills applicable for functional communication with individuals with hearing impairments 8. Didactic principles and specifics of different characteristics of visual perception of looking; global reading, initial reading, oral speech and its characteristics, finger alphabet – one-handed and two-handed dactyl, sign languages of individuals with severe hearing impairments. 9. Basic and methodological approaches in the education and upbringing of individuals with hearing impairments, specifics of communication skills applicable for functional communication with individuals with hearing impairments 10. Initial diagnostic methods for individuals with hearing impairments; screening, early intervention 11. The role of a speech therapist/deaf therapist in education and reeducation of hearing 12. Compensatory, technical and teaching aids for individuals with hearing impairments. Application and solution of model situations that arise when working with individuals with hearing impairments

- Teaching methods
- Personal contact in teaching, consultation hours. During continuous study, the student uses study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here, he/she will also demonstrate knowledge of the mandatory literature and lectures of contact teaching. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied subject topics via e-mail, individual or group consultations. The subject has prepared an e-learning course in IS SU and a team has been established in MS Teams, which also serves as another possible tool for communication with the teacher and between students.
