Course objectives
Students will be introduced to the development of attitudes towards people with disabilities, strategic and legislative documents guaranteeing equal access. They will gain an overview of the scientific field of special education in the global and national context, current terminology and information on the relationship of special education to other sciences. Emphasis will be placed on the specifics of education of people with special educational needs in the context of their comprehensive development and socialization.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: - the student will explain the development of the scientific field - the student will describe the position of special education in the system of sciences - the student will define terminological concepts Professional skills: - the student will explain how equal opportunities for people with disabilities are guaranteed by law - the student will describe special educational needs in the areas of physical, psychological or social - the student will clarify the areas of intervention in special education General competencies: - the student will express his/her opinion on current special education topics - the student can justify differences in the education of people with disabilities based on a comparison with the norm
Syllabus
Contents: 1. Theoretical foundations of special education, terminology 2. Introduction to the issue of changes in the paradigms of special education, special education in the system of sciences 3. National and international strategic, conceptual and legislative documents regulating the position of people with disabilities in society 4. Classification of special education, etiology and symptomatology of disability, new approaches to the WHO classification 5. Comparison of concepts of special education in our country and abroad 6. Aspects of special education intervention in people with disabilities across age categories 7. The importance of early intervention and the specifics of the psychomotor development of children with disabilities 8. Coordinated rehabilitation, goals, components and their characteristics, aspects of interagency cooperation 9. Pedagogical rehabilitation, goals, means 10. Specifics of socialization of people with disabilities in adulthood 11. Professional competencies of a special education teacher 12. Examples of good practice - in our country and abroad.
