- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic principles in the field of scientific methodology, focusing on acquiring essential knowledge and skills needed for working with professional texts, as well as the basics of behavior and orientation in the academic environment. Students will be introduced to topics focused on the nature of science, its classification, and the basic concepts and methods used in the field of social sciences. This overview will be complemented by a practical part, in which students will work practically with professional texts and learn the main principles of studying and creating professional texts. The goal of the course is to develop students' knowledge and skills in working with professional texts, correctly using the current citation standard, and ethical behavior within the academic space.
- Learning outcomes
- After successfully completing the course, students will be able to present the basic concepts and methods in the field of social sciences and will be able to practically apply this knowledge when working with professional literature related to their field of study. Based on assigned practical examples (thematic bibliography, annotations), they will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to practical examples.
- Syllabus
- Structure and characteristics of the program "Social Work in Public Administration" Characteristics of basic principles and rules of behavior in the academic environment. Basic literature of the studied program, scientific and professional journals. Definition of professional style and its peculiarities. Characteristics of basic types of professional texts. Main principles of constructing a professional text Methods and techniques for working with professional texts. Citation standards and their application. Ethical issues related to the preparation and presentation of scientific and professional work. Processing annotations, compiling text from professional sources. Rules for working with text – quoting, paraphrasing, note apparatus. Principles for creating PowerPoint presentations and principles for presenting. Bibliographic citations of documents according to current citation standards.
