- Course objectives
- Aim of the subject is to help students' understanding of how to apply the necessary skills to conceptualising, investigating, analysing and appraising intercultural communication in business and professional contexts.
- Learning outcomes
- The student can define intercultural communication, explain specifics of the intercultural communication, name culture values and apply their impact on communication in marketing, explain various definitions of culture, describe specifics of selected cultures, specify national identity, describe cultural dimensions, explain specifics of the Hofstede´s cultural dimensions, describe issues of culture and reverse culture shock, state the difference between verbal and non-verbal communication, specify barriers of communication, define the types of business communication and improve the skills for giving presentations, use the beneficial phrases for telephone conversations, manage video conferencing, define business etiquette, acquire skills for meeting people, develop skills in small talk, understand the differences in cultures when meeting people, gain skills needed for meetings, acquire the tips on what to include in an agenda, discuss types of negotiations, practise how to be effective in negotiations, enlarge negotiation vocabulary and phrases, the student can write a CV, create a cover letter, write emails. reports, understand how to handle complaints, state main points of international advertising, search for job advertising.

- Intercultural communication and its specifics. Language and culture. Culture values and their impact on communication in marketing. Culture dimensions and their practical application in marketing. Case studies illustrating various aspects of culture dimensions.
- 2. Business Organization and Culture, Division of Cultures
- Defining culture. Cultural and cross-cultural awareness. Types of culture. National identity. Division according to Hofstede, Trompenaars, and Lewis.
- 3. Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication, Effective Communication Listening skills. Oral communication skills. Reading skills.
