Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the historical development of social work and social care in the European context. To present approaches in social work and care, in connection with the needs of individual demographic and social groups. To teach them to master the basic techniques of social work, including client diagnostics. Students will be oriented in social care services (in state and non-state organizations) and the issues of social counseling.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)

Student definuje a interpretuje základní pojmy v sociální práci a sociální péči. Charakterizuje hlavní historické etapy sociální práce a sociální péče. Definuje a charakterizuje handicapované skupiny. Definuje a charakterizuje formy sociální péče a metodiku sociální práce s vybranými skupinami handicapovaných. Analyzuje a aplikuje metody sociální práce s jednotlivcem a skupinou. Definuje a charakterizuje komunitní práci v rámci forem sociální péče a strukturou sociálních služeb. Charakterizuje komunitní plán, analyzuje jeho priority a faktory, které ovlivňují průběh a výsledky komunitního plánu. Interpretuje a individuální plán pro vybranou skupinu handicapovaných skupin obyvatel včetně diagnostikování, plánování a hodnocení. Definuje, charakterizuje a analyzuje výzkumné metody v sociálním výzkumu. Aplikuje metodiku výzkumu na vybranou skupinu obyvatel v rámci sociální péče.

 

Syllabus
1. Definition of basic concepts of social work. Relationship between social work and neighboring fields. Clarification of basic positions and concepts – social problem, client, situation, case, philanthropy, charity. 2. Theoretical approaches in social work and significant representatives. 3. Historical development of social work. Individual stages of development of social work. Its content and goals. 4. Methodology of social work with individuals and groups. 5. Aim of social intervention, diagnostics and planning. Choosing the right method. 6. Individual case work with a client. Individual case work with a client. 7. Principles of group sessions. Implementation of social work with a group in the field. 8. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. 9. Forms of social care for handicapped groups. Characteristics of handicapped groups of the population. Definition of common and specific features of handicapped groups of the population. Types of handicapped groups of the population with regard to the typology of handicap. 10. Community work with the disabled. Subcultures of disabled population groups. 11. Therapy, rapid counseling intervention, rehabilitation and personal assistance. 12. Community social care. Qualitative and quantitative research methods in social care. Integrated supervision in social care for the disabled. 13. Strategy and community planning in community social care for emigrants and national minorities.

Teaching methods
1. Lecture and seminar.

2. Project-based learning - students solve a specific problem or project individually or in groups.

3. Case study - analysis of a model situation.

4. Discussion and brainstorming - exchange of views between students and the teacher.
Assessment methods
The condition for admission to the exam is a seminar paper on a selected topic. The goal is to solve a problem situation that relates to disabled citizens or a legislative problem in the Czech Republic.

The exam is combined, written or oral. The written exam is in the form of a test with closed and open questions. The oral exam is in the make-up period. Oral exams can also be taken at the student's request or by students with specific educational needs. The overall grade for the subject is the average of the grades from the seminar paper and the exam result.
