Course objectives
The student defines and interprets basic concepts in social work and social care. Characterizes the main historical stages of social work and social care. Defines and characterizes handicapped groups. Defines and characterizes forms of social care and methodology of social work with selected groups of handicapped people. Analyzes and applies methods of social work with individuals and groups. Defines and characterizes community work within the framework of forms of social care and the structure of social services. Characterizes a community plan, analyzes its priorities and factors that influence the course and results of the community plan. Interprets and individual plan for a selected group of handicapped population groups including diagnosis, planning and evaluation. Defines, characterizes and analyzes research methods in social research. Apply research methodology to a selected group of population within social care.

Syllabus
1. Definition of basic concepts of social work. Relationship between social work and neighboring fields. Clarification of basic positions and concepts – social problem, client, situation, case, philanthropy, charity. 2. Theoretical approaches in social work and significant representatives. 3. Historical development of social work. Individual stages of development of social work. Its content and goals. 4. Methodology of social work with individuals and groups. 5. Aim of social intervention, diagnostics and planning. Choosing the right method. 6. Individual case work with a client. Individual case work with a client. 7. Principles of group sessions. Implementation of social work with a group in the field. 8. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. 9. Forms of social care for handicapped groups. Characteristics of handicapped groups of the population. Definition of common and specific features of handicapped groups of the population. Types of handicapped groups of the population with regard to the typology of handicap. 10. Community work with the disabled. Subcultures of disabled population groups. 11. Therapy, rapid counseling intervention, rehabilitation and personal assistance. 12. Community social care. Qualitative and quantitative research methods in social care. Integrated supervision in social care for the disabled. 13. Strategy and community planning in community social care for emigrants and national minorities.

Presentation of a seminar project with grading, Written exam test or oral exam according to the needs of the student and students with specific educational needs.
The overall grade for the course is the average of the grades from the seminar project and the exam.
