Syllabus
  • 1. Banking system and its regulation
  • Place and role of banking sector in the financial system. Management and organisational structure of banks. Aims and reasons for banking regulations. Instruments and institutions of banking regulation and supervision. Basic variants of institutional arrangements of regulation and supervision. Lender of last resort.
  • 2. Bank asset and liability management
  • Bank asset management. Primary and secondary assets, loan and investments. Bank credit portfolio. Bank liability management. Types of deposits, costs of deposits. Deposit insurance. Bank capital, function and sources of capital, regulation of capital adequacy. Nondeposit liabilities of banks.
  • 3. Credit products of banks
  • Credit products legislation. Credit relation betwee bank and client. Classification of loans according to different criteria. Characteristics of basic types of loans. Bank products for financing of housing needs. Advantages and disadvantages of products, combination of products. Importance, principles and types of loan collaterals.
  • 4. Loan analysis
  • Analysis of legal aspects of the client. Analysis of the creditworthiness of physical entities - citizens. Analysis of the creditworthiness of companies. Typology of credit bureaus according to the World Bank; credit bureaus used in the Czech Republic. Analysis of the business plan. Analysis of collateral.
  • 5. Other banking products
  • Characteristics of investment banking. Investments into securities, real estates, precious metals, investment policy of banks. Products of off-balance sheet banking. Basic principles and products of islamic banking, in comparison with traditional banking.
  • 6. Illegal banking practices
  • Causes, characteristics and classification of illegal practices in banking. Embezzlements, banking robberies and thefts. Insider trading, insider informations, insider persons. Black and gray money, process of money laundering. Anti money laundering legislation. Corruption and its measurement.
  • 7. Financial analysis and bank performance
  • Assessment of bank performance, costs and revenues of banks. Specifics of financial analysis of banks. Information sources for financial analysis of banks. Ratios of asset quality, capital adequacy, profitability, liquidity and productivity. Values of ratios and their interpretation.
