Course objectives
Students will critically define and apply an entrepreneurial mindset to identify and validate market opportunities using business design tools.
Learning outcomes

Student will be able to critically define and apply an entrepreneurial mindset to identify and validate market opportunities using creativity and business thinking tools. They will gain the proficiency to navigate the SME ecosystem, including legal frameworks and support structures such as incubators and accelerators, while mastering the operational essentials of financial, personnel, and crisis management across the business life cycle. Furthermore, students will be capable of designing strategic plans for specific venture types—including family, social, and female-led businesses—and formulating sophisticated growth and internationalization strategies involving networking, scaling-up, franchising, or mergers and acquisitions within a global competitive landscape. 


Syllabus
1.    Entrepreneur and entrepreneurial mindset  
Defining entrepreneurship as process and activity. Understanding the importance of entrepreneurship in the society. Describing characteristics, advantages and disadvantages for being an entrepreneur. Entrepreneur and the process of idea development. Creativity and business thinking tests. Looking for entrepreneurial opportunities. Idea vs opportunity. 
2.    Start-ups and their active support policy 
Definition of small and medium enterprises according to valid legislation. Support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the EU. Ecosystems supporting entrepreneurship (incubators, accelerators, coworking centres). Counselling and mentoring programmes for start-ups. 
3.    Operating the business  
All the various activities and skills needed to run the business successfully. Basic principles and differences in the management related to personnel, financial, operational areas. Economical minimum for entrepreneurs. Crisis management related to business life cycle.  
4.    Specific types of business ventures  
Family business and its challenges, plan of succession. Business of the young people, women entrepreneurship. Social business and its specifics. Comparing economic concepts when making decisions for an entrepreneurial venture. Scenario and Business Planning differences according to those business ventures. 
5.    Managing and growing the venture  
Networking and alliances in business. Innovation as a source of growth and development for business. Scale-up tendencies and projects. Development of a comparative matrix of different venture models. Financial issues of mergers and acquisitions. 
6.    International business ventures 
Strategies and structures of international business and assess the special roles of an international business's various functions. Formulating and executing strategies, plans, and tactics to succeed in international business ventures. Licensing and franchising, main advantages and disadvantages.

Teaching methods
Lectures: Interactive exposition and guided dialogue on theoretical concepts, supplemented by real-market case study analysis and expert insights from business practice.

Seminars: Team project workshops focused on business plan creation, crisis decision-making simulations, investor presentation (pitching) training, and entrepreneurial mindset diagnostic tests.
Assessment methods
A graded term project based on active seminar participation (30% of the final grade), presentation of project results and discussion (20% of the final grade), and an oral examination (50% of the final grade). The overall grade is determined by the total points earned, with a minimum passing threshold of 60%.
