Course objectives
The aims of this course is to provide students with a theoretical framework of destination management, planning issues and strategic approaches; planning and marketing applications for destination management. It focuses on relationship of tourism to business and economic development, natural resources and the environment, culture and history and community and society. Select examples of tourism from destinations throughout the country, Europe and the World will be presented and discussed.

    2. Economic and Political contributions of tourism.
    3. The Destination Environment: physical, socio-cultural, economic.
    4. Tourist Destination Areas: the regionalisation process, growth and development.
    5. Introduction of destination types- developing and developed economies, urban and rural zones.
    6. Nature of tourism destinations and their planning, management and development.
    7. Management of tourist destination.
    8. Marketing of tourist destination.
    9. Communication plan, media and non-media communication strategy of destination management.
    10. Process of strategy development.
    11. Theoretical approaches to the destination as product.
    12. Destination superstructures and infrastructures.
    13. Crisis management in destinations.
