Course objectives
Foundations of the mathematical modelling in economy, optimization and economic equilibria, understanding how to use mathematics in economics.
Syllabus
  • - approach to the mathematical modelling in economy, its content and methods
    - economic function and slope of this function, average and marginal slope
    - total, average, and marginal quantities
    - elasticity of the function
    - discrete dynamical models noncontinuous quantity changes, spider's web model of supply - demand model
    - price equilibrium as a result of the equality between supply and demand
    - supply - demand continuous model
    - utility function, its mathematical expression and graphic representation
    - utility maximization, substitutive and income effects
    - cost function, progressive and degressive costs
    - productivity and profit functions
    - production function, Cobb-Douglas production function
    - consumption and saving functions
    - investment function and capital accumulation
