The Bachelor's degree programme Economics and Management examines issues central to the world we live in: namely how the economy and organisations function, and how resources are allocated and coordinated to achieve the organisation’s objectives. Graduates of the programme are provided with basic, general preparation in the economic, corporate, quantitative and legal fields, as well as a solid methodological training in the analysis and critical interpretation of economic and corporate dynamics. They can work in management positions in a wide spectrum of companies. The degree programme prepares students to enter the job market immediately upon graduation or pursue a Master’s degree.

  • Objectives

    The aim of the Bachelor's academic study programme Economics and Management is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for long-term employment in the international labor market for individual and team work in the field of management of organizations or for the implementation of their own competitive business plan. Thanks to the balanced composition of the study programme, the student will first understand the key economic laws, principles of operation of economic entities, their organization and management or settings, and the impact of international legislation and trade agreements on the business environment. On this basis, the student acquires awareness of the nature of business, its components and the use of critical thinking principles to evaluate economic data and related facts for the processing of relevant documents for competent decisions in the organization and management of economic processes of private and public entities. During their studies, students are also confronted with the practical aspects of the organization's business through the involvement of practitioners in the teaching process.

  • Rules and Conditions for the Creation of a Study Plan

    The study programme is fully based on the ECTS credit system. The length of the lesson is 45 minutes. The length of the semester is 13 weeks. The student is obliged to obtain 180 ECTS credits within the study. During the study, the student completes a total of 18 compulsory courses (excluding Bachelor thesis seminar and Bachelor thesis), representing 112 ECTS credits (62 % of the study plan). Within the category of compulsory courses, 6 courses are conceived as basic theoretical courses of the profiling basis (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Enterprise Theory, Management, Principles of finance, Management, Principles of marketing). The other 6 compulsory courses fall into the category of courses of the profiling basis (Logistics, Business economics, International trade operations, Corporate finance, Accounting, Entrepreneurship). The remaining compulsory courses cover the basic economic and managerial disciplines, the completion of which completes the standard graduate of the economic specialization programme. Within the compulsory elective courses, the student has the opportunity to choose from 7 courses with the obligation to obtain 23 credits (13 % of the study plan). This means successful completion of 4 courses. A total of 18 ECTS credits (10 %) are reserved in the study plan for elective courses. The student can choose from all Bachelor's degree courses that are offered at the faculty. This allows the student, in addition to the study program, to a lesser extent in another discipline (e.g. intercultural communication, tourism, information technology, etc.). The student can also fill the credits for elective courses with credits obtained during a study stay abroad or by participating in solving real problems and tasks of economic practice within the Business Gate Academy. During their studies, students work on a bachelor's thesis (BT) on a given topic under the guidance of the supervisor of BT. The choice of topic, including the supervisor of the BT, and the requisites of the BT are given in the Dean's Instruction No. 03/2020 "The Implementation Procedure for the Description of Final Theses" its elaboration in Dean's Instruction No. 02/2020 "Editing, Publishing and Storing Final Theses". BT is a compulsory component of the study programme, as well as a special Bachelor thesis seminar. The student demonstrates the ability of independent thinking, problem analysis and relevant expertise. For these activities the student will receive a total of 27 ECTS credits (15 % of the study plan).

  • Access to Further Studies

    The acquired knowledge and skills enable the graduate of the Bachelor's academic study programme Economics and Management to continue their studies with a high degree of independence, e.g. in the Master's programme Economics and Management, which is accredited at SU SBA.
