Dental hygiene

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

• perform all activities of a health care professional with professional competence according to Section 3 of Decree 55/2011 as amended in 2017
• educate and instruct patients in regular and systematic preventive oral hygiene care without professional supervision, to determine the individual level of oral hygiene, to practice oral hygiene procedures and techniques and to check their effecti
• carry out educational activities aimed at the prevention of dental caries, periodontopathies, orthodontic anomalies and rational nutrition
• participate in research in a multidisciplinary team
• carry out initial and follow-up oral examinations, including obtaining a medical history, assessment of periodontal and soft tissue conditions and an indicative assessment of the state of the dentition and its caries
• remove plaque and supragingival tartar, polish tooth surfaces with prophylactic materials. Remove pigmentation with prophylactic materials and special appliances and perform plaque retention removal and surface treatment of fillings
• perform professional teeth cleaning, whitening and minor aesthetic treatments, treat sensitive dentin and apply prophylactic materials. Take impressions of the dentition and make study models
• determine an individual dental hygiene treatment plan based on the individual treatment plan established by the dentist and perform conservative non-surgical initial, maintenance and supportive therapy
• remove subgingival tartar, smooth tooth roots and perform closed curettage and apply topical medications supra- and subgingivally
• know the principles of dental hygiene practice and work with the dentist
