Die Modalitätsproblematik ist für Übersetzer eine Herausforderung, und das aus mindestens zwei Gründen: das erste Problem besteht darin, dass Modalität in allen Sprachen auf verschiedene Weise ausgedrückt wird, das zweite Problem ist auf der semantisch-pragmatischen Ebene zu beobachten, indem der Textproduzent eine bestimmte Einstellung zum Gesagten ausdrückt und der Textrezipient (bzw. Übersetzer) die Intention der Proposition richtig verstehen und weiter übermitteln soll. Besonders bei deutschen infiniten Konstruktionen sind Signale der Modalität nicht auf den ersten Blick erkennbar und können somit Probleme bei der Interpretation durch nicht-muttersprachliche Sprachbenutzer bereiten. Aus diesen Gründen setzt sich der Beitrag zum Ziel, infinite Konstruktionen, genauer den modalen Infinitiv und das modale Partizip, in deutschen Texten zu untersuchen und mit ihren tschechischen Entsprechungen zu vergleichen.

Modality seems to be a challenge for many translators. The reasons are twofold – firstly, every single language has its own means to express modality, and secondly, there is the semantic-pragmatic approach to modality. An author of a text expresses their own stance in an utterance and the reader or the translator has to understand and convey the intention of the proposition. German infinite constructions in particular have no clear signals of modality and are therefore very problematic for non-native speakers. Hence, the aim of the paper is to describe modal infinitives and modal participles in German texts and compare them with their Czech equivalents.
