Abstract
This paper examines cosmic horror and related themes in selected videogames, all inspired by short stories of American writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft. Firstly, the article focuses on the genre of horror videogames, introducing the sub-category of psychological horror and explaining how exactly Lovecraftian horror excels in said area. Subsequently, the article addresses specific cosmic themes that are difficult to adapt by game developers and presents the two most common forms of Lovecraftian videogames. The aim is to analyse the selected videogames, highlight the specific traits of cosmic horror and interpret their role in a videogame setting, as well as the impact they have on a player. The article concludes by proposing future methods of Lovecraftian horror adaptations in horror videogame settings.
