Abstract
Brownfields represent a serious urban, environmental and social problem, as they have a number of undesirable impacts on their surroundings and are associated with significant negative effects. The only solution to suppress these negative manifestations is the regeneration of brownfields. The key entity that can be involved in the restoration of abandoned and unused real estate is the public sector, not only in the role of the regenerator itself, but especially in formulating and applying appropriate tools that motivate or actually help all economic entities to be involved in the restoration of brownfields financially or otherwise interested. The aim of the paper is to theoretically classify, categorize and characterize the possible tools that the public sector can use in this matter.
