Alisa Smolina: CANCER (RAK) Hauerova 4 – Atelier (45 minutes) “I am a Cancer. No, not according to the zodiac sign. Actually, I was born in winter. It just turned out that way. I am a Cancer. A crustacean.” A story about a young man whose life suddenly changes into a struggle with his own physical prison. The main character is Rak (Cancer), a young man facing a ruthless diagnosis – osteosarcoma. But this is not just a story of illness. It is a metaphorical journey into one's inner self, where physical pain intertwines with internal struggles and the fear of death reveals the most vulnerable sides of human nature. It is a story about accepting one's own mortality, searching for meaning in hopelessness, and how light can be found even in the darkest moments of life. Alisa Smolina was born in Russia and currently lives and studies in the Czech Republic. She focuses on creative writing, theatre dramaturgy, and translation. She works across genres – from romance novels and psychological prose to existential or ironic theatrical texts. She is currently working on an extensive historical novel with a war theme. She is interested in language as a tool of memory, identity, and misunderstanding. She understands writing as a way to navigate the world. She perceives theatre as a space where it is possible to live more than one life, touch other experiences, become uncertain – and through that, understand something. The current play was created as an attempt to thematicize what is difficult to grasp directly: a conversation that perhaps never happened, but nevertheless had to be heard.
