Since the 1990's academics have popularized the concept of trauma in literature, both in fiction and non-fiction. However, there are still areas and writers that are yet to be analysed through this lens. Trauma fiction typically explores the negative impact of external events on characters, ranging from large-scale disasters to deeply personal experiences. This article analyses the depiction of personal trauma in Stephen King's novella Big Driver by analysing how characters respond to their traumatic experiences. The aim is to outline the framework of trauma theory, emphasizing the aftermath of trauma, especially as mental health gains more attention in contemporary discourse.
