Irish poetry written in English began to flourish with the onset of the French Revolution, which ignited new rebellions against the British. The Irish rebellions were unsuccessful until the 20th century, when The Irish Republic was finally created; however, it divided the country into two parts, Ulster remained British, and Éire became independent. The French Revolution and the events that followed it substantially influenced Irish writers, particularly poets such as Thomas Moore, W. B. Yeats and Seamus Heaney. It is of no importance whether they come from Ulster or Éire; all have the same background concerning mythology, traditions, Celtic heritage and common history. They are writers who were educated in English, and more or less are considered to be Anglo-Irish.
