Course objectives
The aim of this course is to help students develop as writers within the English speaking academic community by raising awareness of, practising, and reflecting upon the conventions of written texts. Students will become familiar with the basic academic genres and practise the genre of the argumentative essay. They will also learn to incorporate the work of other authors into their own writing and develop their proof-reading and editing skills so as to be able to polish, edit and refine their own written work without the help of others.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to:
- describe the conventions of academic writing in English and apply these in practice;
- identify basic academic genres;
- incorporate the work of other authors into their own writing;
- make corrections and adjustments to their writing;
- write an annotation of an academic article and a research paper on a given topic;
