Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to acquaint students with selected cultural concepts reflected in British and American literature and with their subsequent interpretations in the form of film adaptations of literary works. Discussion of selected culturological categories will be based on the comparison of selected film works with their literary models (or with relevant text excerpts), together with a reflection of the cultural-social, artistic and historical conventions influencing conversion of artistic text into its film form.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to define the basic features of short stories as a literary genre and will know important representatives of British and American short stories and their major works. They will be able to analyze short literary texts, apply basic narratological concepts in this analysis and use relevant secondary sources.
