Course objectives
The lectures introduce students to the current language standard and to trends in the development of contemporary Italian in the field of morphology. The course proceeds according to individual parts of speech. In the first semester, attention is devoted to the forms and use of articles, nouns, adjectives, pronouns and numerals. Each part of speech is first described from a formal point of view, followed by an explanation of its function and use. The lectures also include an overview of Italian morphological terminology. The aim of the seminars is to practise and consolidate the knowledge acquired in the lectures through various types of exercises and the analysis of authentic texts.
Learning outcomes
Formal and functional description of the parts of speech in Italian. Knowledge of basic terminology. Text analysis and completion of exercises.

  • 4. Gender of nouns; formation of the feminine
  • 5. Number of nouns; formation of the plural
  • 6. Adjectives; qualifying adjectives; degrees of comparison of qualifying adjectives
  • 7. Determinative adjectives: possessive, demonstrative
  • 8. Determinative adjectives: indefinite, interrogative
