- Course objectives
- The lecture deals with the word from the point of view of all lexicological disciplines and is conceived on the basis of the linguistic confrontation of Czech and German. Students get acquainted with the characteristics of German vocabulary and with German word-formation models. Attention is focused mainly on problematic issues of German lexicology, which are, for example, the issue of productivity and activity of word-forming models, the question of synonymy and the use of foreign words in the contemporary German language. The lecture also focuses on current issues of German word formation, which include the formation of increasingly common acronyms in German. This tendency is also evident in the area of compounds, which, despite their frequency, are very often preceded by a shortening process. The interpretation is focused on the use of these words in written and spoken form of the current language. The seminar builds on the material discussed in the lecture and focuses on the practical analysis of the discussed phenomena in the form of prepared worksheets. In the exercise of lexical analysis, students get acquainted with relevant dictionaries and learn to work with dictionary entries.
