Course objectives
Students will acquire the ability to analyze environmental issues and their impact on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, cultural landscapes and the environment.
Syllabus
  • 1. Urbanization and its impact on climate change and environmental pollution. Environmental pollution and its impact on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
    2. Environmental pollution and its impact on the cultural landscape , biotic and abiotic factors of ecosystems in the area and at great distances from urban areas.
    3. Cultural and ecosystem responses to change as a result of the interconnection of resources, energy and information between cultural, social and biological systems.
    4. Monitoring changes in the landscape and ecosystem responses.
    5. Ecosystem response to urbanization.
    6. Landscape and human settlements and their impact on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, cultural landscapes, ecosystem services and resources.
    7. Characteristics of materials of cultural and historical sights (iron, steel, zinc, copper, bronze, limestone, sandstone) . Types of corrosion. The consequences of physical and chemical damage to cultural and historical monuments. The strategy of cultural heritage protection against environmental influences.
    8. The effect of air pollutants on the corrosion of metals and materials of stone. Atmospheric corrosion. The rural environment, urban environment and industrial atmosphere.
    9. Assessment of the impact of air pollutants on the corrosion of materials of cultural and historical monuments. Acceptable and the current level of corrosion material.
    10. The effects of tourism on the natural and anthropogenic environment . Opportunities and threats posed by tourism to cultural heritage. The requirements of local, national, and international tourism and questions and solutions by various means.
    11. Typology of tourism strategies in relation to the cultural heritage of UNESCO. The dependence of the protection of cultural heritage in tourist income protection programs and formal education.
    12. Challenges and opportunities facing managers of cultural heritage and the differences between the management of resources in urban and rural contexts. Involving communities in the planning of cultural heritage management. Role of risks, monitoring and evaluation in the field of cultural heritage.
