Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to provide an introduction to the major works of American literature predominantly from the practical perspective. The emphasis is therefore placed on reading and text analyses in the context of American literature and culture. Special attention is paid to the specific characteristics of American literature, its sources but also its gradual development from its dependence on British culture to finding its unique pluralistic expression.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to define the main features of American literature, will have the knowledge of major American writers and works, will be able to analyze texts from various times and genres, and will be able to apply basic literary terms and use secondary sources.
